5 Day Frozen Embryo Timeline After Transfer
Updated: May 13
What can I expect after a five day frozen embryo transfer?
You will likely receive discharge instructions from your clinic on the day of transfer that will give you new information for your medication calendar, tell you how to eat or drink, and also ask you to avoid intercourse, hot tubs, spas and hot yoga. Every clinic is different but most times you will be told to relax the next 2-3 days and take it easy. Then you can resume moderate exercise and walking to get blood flow to your uterus.
From there, you may be wondering what’s going on inside your body from a biological perspective. This is my 4th time having a two week wait during an IVF FET attempt, I still want a calendar to follow along and see what’s happening. After my own research, I created a new and modernized version of the embryo calendar POST transfer day. I didn’t really like what was currently available and I think this version is the most clear. You start with a blastocyst, then once it’s hatched it becomes an embryo. Finally the embryo attaches to the uterine lining and it becomes a fetus if you’re pregnant.
Two Week Wait
So you’re 5DP5DT and you’ve scoured the internet for successful pictures of womens’ Free Response Pregnancy Tests. You are feeling hormonal but convince yourself it’s more hormonal then just the side effects from the meds you’ve been taking the last few weeks. Is it time to test or will you have the discipline to wait til your Beta day at your fertility clinic? At the end of the day, this is an extremely stressful time and only you know how you will react to a negative or positive at home POAS test.
My first IVF pregnancy experience was with the “line comparison” and “dye stealer” phenomenon within the IVF community. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was pregnant with twins after my first transfer. I was still peeing on a stick twice a day, morning and night, then panicking over the line progression between 7DP5DT and 8DP5DT. First off, the different boxes and brands can change the look of the lines. Second off, the line looks different after it dries so if you’re comparing a fresh test at night to one from the morning, it is not going to be very noticeable. I highly suggest you do not test every day if you are going to test at home. I think on my third transfer, I’ve come up with a solid plan for testing.
August 2021 when I was pregnant with twins but still panicking over line progression.
The Best Way to Test at Home Before Beta
First off, choose a day no sooner than 5DP5DT so that you are pretty certain it will be positive by then. A First Response Early Result test will be able to detect at least 6.3 ml of HCG and that will give you a line if you’re pregnant. In order to avoid the line comparison crazy train, I committed to doing a digital a day or two before my BETA at the clinic. An Early Response Clear Blue Digital at home test requires a higher level of HCG with a sensitivity of at least 10 ml. If you get a positive digital test then you can rest assure your HCG had to have gone up without comparing lines. If you time it right, you’ll only have another day or so to wait for the official news from a blood test at your clinic.
This was 8DP5DT when I had my digital pregnancy test come back positive after having a squinter line on free response at 6DP5DT. When I had my beta, the nurse said it was at 167 which was over the threshold of 50 that they want to confirm a viable pregnancy. We had 4 transfers total and I didn’t figure out this method until our third transfer. The last two that failed I was testing at 5DP5DT and again at 6,7, and 8 days. I think it’s easier to hold off if it’s positive but you’re waiting anxiously each time it’s negative. You hold onto hope and it’s hard not to test daily.
My biggest suggestion is to protect your heart and set yourself up for a mourning period if your transfer doesn’t work. I have cried over the losses of my embryos and the wasted blood, sweat and tears to get to those transfers. You’re just ready to get off the meds and move onto the next cycle. Unfortunately, some women don’t get clear results in the two week wait and end up on a beta rollercoaster ending in a biochemical. There’s no easy way to get through this time period since the emotional and financial stakes are so high. Please guard your heart and stay close to your loved ones for support.
